I’ve read the
testimonials. I have to admit, I’m a bit
of a skeptic too. Could a mobility
powerchair really make life easier? I
watched Hollywood actors tout mobility
powerchairs as being lifesavers and scoffed.
An actor will say anything if the price is high enough.
It is becoming
clear to me that a mobility powerchair does both make life easier and offer
many new adventures to those who rely on a mobility powerchair for their daily
routines.
Take the story
of my father’s friend who was diagnosed with MS (Multiple Sclerosis) after she
graduated from high school. Her outgoing
father loved being outdoors—hiking, fishing, and even just walking. His MS progressed to the day where standing
for more than a few minutes was not an option.
His MS was winning his battle to stay in control. Suddenly, it became clear. He needed to become wheelchair bound. He was devastated.
His wife was
smart though. She couldn’t sit back and
watch him sink into depression. The MS
was hard enough to handle. She talked to
his doctor and asked if a mobility powerchair could help him regain some
control. Instead of becoming stuck
inside by himself, he had the option of calling a friend, using his mobility
powerchair and going outside to enjoy the things he loved. Driving his mobility powerchair to a bridge
down the street ensured he could still go fishing in safety. A walk through the park because a peaceful
ride around the park. He could listen to
the birds sing, the brook babble, and greet friendly faces. All because his mobility powerchair gave him
back his life.
The happiest day
of his life came the day his very first grandson was born. He was able to drive himself into the
hospital room. Recline the chair and
raise the footrests on his mobility powerchair.
As he positioned himself properly, he was able to hold his grandson for
the very first time. It was a sight to
see. He had his grandson in his arms and
carried a look of sheer rapture on his face.
Your mobility
powerchair can and will improve your life in ways you never thought
possible. If you are becoming dependent
on mobility products, don’t despair. You
may find yourself able to conquer tasks you’d dreamed were far from your reach.
