Powerchairs are essentially motorized wheelchairs and provides you the tools to live life on
your terms again.
Powerchairs come with various configurations:
- Rear Wheel drive
- Center Wheel drive
- Front Wheel drive
- Four wheel drive
Each style offers various advantages and disadvantages as well as handling capabilities.
There is a wide range of indoor/outdoor powerchair models to choose from, including: very portable powerchairs that are easy to fold up and dissesemble to very heavy powerchairs that can require a motorized carrier that is attached to the back of a car or van.
To operate the powerchair, the operator controls the speed and direction with a joystick controller. They are typically prescribed to those with little function of the hands, arms, shoulder or upper torso.
Powerchairs can usually tilt, recline, elevate the legs, offer adjustable seat heights among others.
Power chairs are fully motorized and do not require upper body strength however the battery requires recharging after approximately twenty-five miles of use.
